The detour toward the archaeological complex lies approximately 17 km from the Puno-Moquegua highway, south of Puno (20 minutes by car).

It is a pre-Hispanic cemetery that belonged to Lupaca and Colla. Although there is evidence of cave paintings dating back 8,000 years, the principal structures date back to 1100 to 1450 A.D. There are also Incan ruins. The landscape is dominated by chullpas or pucullos, which are great funerary towers.
